PittsburghToday publishes indicators in ten topic areas: Arts, Demographics, Economy, Education, Environment, Government, Health, Public Safety, and Transportation. An indicator is a quantitative measure that describes some aspect of our community—economic, social, cultural, environmental—over time. There are obviously many ways to measure our community, and PittsburghToday has tried to choose some of the most meaningful. The project’s goal is to select indicators that tell the most important facts about our region.

PittsburghToday aims to spark a more informed civic dialog by helping people and organizations answer vital questions about their communities. By providing a timely and accurate statistical picture of regional life, PittsburghToday hopes to stimulate a discussion of where we are and where we hope to go. With this information, we can compare our progress, strengths, and weaknesses with other like regions around country. It also gives us a way to measure progress as we move forward as a region.
