Participation in Lights On Afterschool
3 Rivers Connect has been engaged in the afterschool systems building efforts in our region for over five years through our Southwestern PA Afterschool Resource Collaboration (SPARC) Initiative. While our core work in this endeavor is the collection, dissemination, and analysis of afterschool data, we are strongly committed to advocating for afterschool programs in our community.
October 21st marks the 11th annual Lights On Afterschool event across the nation. Over 5,000 communities, 7,500 programs, and a million people across the country will be celebrating the importance of afterschool programs keeping kids safe, helping working families, and inspiring learning. Right here in our region, there will be over a dozen illuminating events that help kids shine. Are you one of the brilliant supporters who will join in the fun?
On Monday, October 18th, the Allegheny Partnership for Out of School Time (APOST) ignites the week with a Symposium spotlighting special guest Dr. Holly Kreider who will address the key issue of family engagement. The APOST Symposium will be from 8-10am at the IBEW Local Union #5, 5 Hot Metal Street in the South Side. RSVP to Gina Harms via email at gina.harms@uwac.org or by calling (412) 456-6803.
On Thursday, October 21st, join a strong collaboration of community afterschool providers and participants at Pittsburgh Peabody, 515 N. Highland Avenue in East Liberty from 4-6pm for a provider fair, youth entertainment, and local leaders that will share how afterschool programs have affected their own lives. RSVP at lightsonafterschool@wireless-neighborhoods.org or by calling (412) 363-1910. These events will be sure to shine a light on how afterschool programs are an essential component of our community’s commitment to children and families.
