Onorato Announces Launch of “Help in Hard Times” Web Site

PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato today announced the launch of a new, easy-to-navigate web site, entitled “Help in Hard Times,” which offers a vast array of resources for families and individuals to turn to when needed.

“The recent economic downturn has caused a number of individuals and families to face financial hardship and stress,” said Onorato. “For many, it’s a new experience to seek outside help and assistance, and our goal is to make it as easy and convenient as possible for them to find information on available services and support.”

The web site, which was developed by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, contains information about employment, food, housing, utility assistance, health care, financial counseling and more. The site is located at www.alleghenycounty.us/dhs/help.aspx.

“Not only has the rising cost of food, fuel and housing hit some hard, but employment situations have often stretched families and individuals to their very limits,” said Allegheny County Human Services Director Marc Cherna. “Knowing where to turn can be a daunting task for those who are unfamiliar with the process.”

Information about programs and services is also available by calling the DHS Director’s Action Line at 1-800-862-6783.

“It is important for anyone in a difficult situation to remember that they are not alone and that help is available,” added Onorato.
